While we continue to update our web content, wel'll be rotating the imagery on a this landing page to commemorate the individuals identified in the Robert "Lucky" Johns Slide Archive. This 12,197 image collection, donated to the PQHP by Lucky in 2013, records a bygone era of nascent lesbian and gay culture born and bred in Pittsburgh. Today we celebrate the memory of Brian White. An early employee of Lucky's, and the House of Tilden's first DJ, Brian White was responsible for the sound of Pittsburgh's after-hours night life. But more than a DJ, Brian was a conduit. He transformed strangers into sisters by connecting the downtown cruising scene to the dance floor of the House of Tilden. "Aunt B" passed away October of 2014 in his East Liberty home. He is dearly missed. Although we have not come across any mix tapes from the House of Tilden in the 1970s, we've recently acquired a set of tapes from DJ Donald Sheffey, of Zach's Fourth Ave (c. 1988) which share his affinity for Soul and R&B. It is available for listening below.
