About PQHP
What can I learn from Pittsburgh Queer History Project and what is its mission?
The Pittsburgh Queer History Project (PQHP) is a dynamic blend of archival work and community engagement, documenting Pittsburgh’s LGBTQ+ history and development through images, oral histories, and event records. The initiative was founded in 2012 by Dr. Harrison Apple, starting as an investigation of gay-owned-and-operated nightclubs acting as semi-legal shelters for sex and social membership. The PQHP’s mission is to be a catalyst in developing a robust record of LGBTQ communities through a combination of community-centered events and home preservation education. While this project’s area of specialty is after-hours nightclubs, please reach out if you are seeking help with your research questions or networking.
Collections
Where can I find the collection of PQHP’s digital archives?
